Tagging which September Power created for her own space... To understand some of the work that went it to them – take for example the Kitchen photos – this was a house in Eureka, California that had no kitchen. September designed the cabinets made from maple and the flooring all original maple wood – not fabricated – real maple……The counters are California Gold Slate – not granite. The idea was to design around the beauty and rustic feel of the Northern Coast, using materials that complimented the natural beauty of Eureka and bringing that sense of nature and beauty into the home.
The loft/attic photos of the same home in Eureka (with the white couch and table) – September took a completely blank very small dusty loft/attic and turned into a very cozy den/office using white outdoor patio furniture with light green cushions and white and turquoise throw pillows and small plants and mirrors to make the room seem bigger and more inviting.
She also used colors that would make the room seem bigger by painting the walls white and the floor yellow and taking light green sheer drapes to cover a wall space that was used to crawl into the very top of the house where the electricity wires are kept, to make it look like a window was behind it rather than a crawl space.
Most of the artwork seen on the walls, September either had found in simple thrift stores, flea markets or came from some of her wonderful artist friends.
The long table with the pumpkin centerpieces was done for a Thanksgiving dinner –
using antique china with pumpkins carved out and putting red roses in them to compliment the color of the pumpkins, along with baby’s breath to bring the purity of white and the newness of the holiday in them – something simple, easy to do and inexpensive, yet elegant, warm and again, creative.
September’s goal in any designing is to take a blank slate or even one that has a start and incorporate the surroundings of the outside in to the inside and taking any celebratory event or simple dinner for four and make it feel warm, welcoming and best of all using materials that won’t break someone’s wallet.
